Water Monitoring Project

Back

We all enjoy using our beautiful waterways and beaches and we appreciate this special unique and fragile environment where we live.  Healthy water contributes to a healthy environment

The aims of our water monitoring team are –
To learn more about our local waterways and catchments including southern Pumicestone Passage, which is a feeding and resting place for migratory and resident wader birds protected under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, signed by the Australian government.

To collect water quality data that contributes to a baseline of knowledge, and to monitor changing conditions in our marine and land environment, so BIEPA can recognise issues such as water turbidity, marine weeds, algal bloom, when they arise and notify the relevant authorities.

BIEPA is currently water quality testing at
·      Dux Creek Catchment
·      Wright’s Creek
·      Bribie Gardens Waterway
·      Pumicestone Passage
·      Ningi Creek

BIEPA has received funding from the Federal Government Communities Environment Programs for the purchase of water testing equipment and for the ongoing costs of this project.
