Next Generation Art Prize

NEXT GENERATION ART PRIZE – BRIBIE ISLAND COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE

BIEPA was again very happy to sponsor the Award for Art from Recycled Materials within the Next Generation Art Prize – held online this year because of uncertainty with Covid restrictions.

BIEPA Member and artist Geoff Ginn judged the entries made from recycled materials and selected the “Dog” sculpture by Rhea May Ramos as the winner, commenting:
“Lifelike, playful and well executed.  A very mature work. The drawing of form involved is terrific capturing anatomy, spirit and action. The finish, construction integrity and composition are of the highest order. This work represents the best in what can be achieved in the genre.”

Lockdowns and staying at home made Rhea acutely aware of the newspapers and junk mail left on footpaths and driveways and the waste it signified.  She wanted to show that the refuse littering the environment could be made into something  loveable that was art.

Geoff also congratulated the young artists who entered  “Don’t Bail on the Whale” by Gal-Art (a group from Banksia Beach State School) and “Where Magic Happens” by Jamie-Lee Hewetson – both works from recycled materials.

Geoff and BIEPA Committee Member Kathleen presented the certificate and prize to Rhea at the Awards Event.
