Guest Speakers: Dr Tony Mathews
Urban and Env. Planning Griffth University
Urban planners and researchers, like the group at Griffth University, have long been making the link between a healthy urban landscape and quality of life. Benefits of a healthy urban landscape have been shown to include cooler temperatures, reduced heat stress, improved health, reduced energy consumption, improved property values, and reduced crime.
Tony has strong research interests in areas such as Climate change adaptation, Green infrastructure, Urban regeneration, and Natural resource management. Tony recently completed a study on the effects of vegetation in Gold Coast communities.
An article on this study was included in the January Newsletter. Tony will be discussing some of his research areas, the results of the Gold Coast study, and its potential
implications for places like Bribie that have no vegetation protection policies in place.
