Foreshore Erosion

Back

BIEPA has long been involved in actions to promote growing the natural dune system by means of protective fencing and plantings. Under the Woorim Beach Stabilisation Project 2008, volunteers participated with the community in propagating and planting endemic dune plants and a BIEPA member collaborated with Friends of Woorim Beach in the innovative design of the dune fencing. The Project demonstrated that growing beaches by planting on dunes and protecting them from pedestrian traffic is the most cost-effective and successful foreshore management practice in erosion prevention. During 2020, BIEPA received grants from Healthy Land and Water and from the Moreton Bay Regional Council to implement another major dune planting project. This will complement the Council’s current Sand Back-Passing Trial.
