At 5:00 this morning (10th February) when Bribie island’s turtle trackers entered the beach, for their early morning monitoring, they discovered hatchling tracks from an unidentified nest. The hatchlings had emerged during the night from the midst of a construction site at main beach Woorim where MBRC is replacing steps.
Bribie’s turtle trackers then began the search for lost hatchlings.
Dozens of exhausted baby turtles were found struggling in the dune grasses after being disoriented by artificial light pollution from Rickman parade.
Bribie’s turtle trackers have consistently requested that council carry out non-emergency foreshore construction works outside the endangered loggerhead turtle nesting and hatching season.
